Schmincke HORADAM Gouache is a series of 48 colors of the finest artist quality, traditionally manufactured using an Arabic gum base and exclusively with the best artist pigments. The colors all have natural opacity—without being enhanced by added white—and produce a “rich,” pastel-like, and intense pigment finish.

The high pigment concentration ensures brightness and color depth in all shades. HORADAM Gouache can be used straight from the tube or diluted with water, and can be freely mixed with Schmincke’s other gouache series as well as HORADAM Aquarell. The colors dry to a matte finish and become slightly lighter in tone, but once dry, they can be refreshed with water and further worked on all types of absorbent paper, cardstock, and canvas.

Short About Schmincke

Schmincke was founded in 1881 by the paint chemists Josef Horadam and Hermann Schmincke in Germany. The company’s first product was the oil paint “Mussini,” developed based on traditional resin-oil paint recipes from the Italian artist Cesare Mussini. In 1892, Josef Horadam developed a new type of liquid-cast watercolor, which he named after himself—the cornerstone of what is now the Horadam Aquarell series. More than 140 years later, Schmincke is still guided by the company motto “Meliora cogito” (I strive for the best), and Horadam Aquarell remains one of the most highly regarded watercolor lines among professional artists worldwide.
