Schmincke PRIMAcryl Professional Heavy Body is a premium, eco-friendly artist’s acrylic paint that is highly pigmented and offers excellent lightfastness. In 2025, Schmincke improved the formulation of PRIMAcryl to create a professional-quality acrylic paint that is more sustainable and free of microplastics: the binder is innovative and contains no synthetic polymer microparticles. Of the 90 colors in the series, 89 are free of animal-derived ingredients, and all tubes and jars are made from recycled plastic.

Short About Schmincke

Schmincke was founded in 1881 by the paint chemists Josef Horadam and Hermann Schmincke in Germany. The company’s first product was the oil paint “Mussini,” developed based on traditional resin-oil paint recipes from the Italian artist Cesare Mussini. In 1892, Josef Horadam developed a new type of liquid-cast watercolor, which he named after himself—the cornerstone of what is now the Horadam Aquarell series.
